For the first Shelf Absorbed post, I have to share a lovely Harry Potter tee that would look fabulous in any muggle, squib or talented wizard’s closet! Check it out at: Harry Potter Alliance Tee
I’d also like to hit on a book to watch for in September, as well as some books that I’ve recently read and they rocked my socks off.
First up: “Gold Fame Citrus,” from Claire Vaye Watkins. First sentence: “Putting a prairie dog into the library was a mistake.” Enough said. Go buy it.
“Crazy Rich Asians” by Kevin Kwan.
Rachel Chu decides to go to Singapore on summer vacation with her boyfriend. Little does she know, her boyfriend is from a lucratively (crazy) rich, established and highly secretive family. Picture the movie “Clueless,” but more money and mo’ drama including a nasty prank with a dead fish.
“The Boston Girl” by Anita Diamont.
This is a story about an immigrant girl, born in 1900, to a family unprepared for life in a city. The story follows Addie Baum throughout girlhood, teenage years and womanhood in a telling and poignant tale about growing up and being different. The book includes details of immigrant tenement housing with great historical details. I loved it.
“How to Build a Girl” by Caitlin Moran.
This book is hilarious. It’s an adults only read and although its funny, I took it as highly cautionary to young vulnerable females searching for their place in the world.
That is all for my first post! If you get a chance, scroll on over and check out the upcoming events page. This can be found on the menu at the top of the page.
